POPULAR DESIGN FEATURES

Raised Beds

Elevated planting areas typically made of wood or other materials, designed to hold soil at a higher level than the surrounding ground. They offer benefits like improved drainage, better soil control, and easier access for planting, tending, and harvesting, making them ideal for growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

Native Perennial Gardens

Features plants that are naturally found in our region and return year after year without needing to be replanted. They are adapted to the local climate and soil, making them low-maintenance and more resilient to pests, diseases, and drought.

Pollinator Gardens

Designed to attract and support pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. These gardens feature a variety of nectar-rich flowers, shrubs, and trees that provide essential food and habitat for pollinators.

Kitchen Gardens

These are highly productive spaces dedicated to growing fresh herbs, vegetables, fruits, and edible flowers for everyday use. Unlike traditional vegetable gardens, kitchen gardens blend functionality with aesthetics, often incorporating geometric layouts, companion planting, and ornamental elements like trellises or pathways and are typically located close to the home for easy access to fresh ingredients.

Orchards & Vineyards

Orchards and vineyards are carefully cultivated spaces dedicated to the growth of fruit trees and grapevines. Both require thoughtful planning to optimize fruit quality, with attention to soil health, climate, and pest control.

Rain Gardens

Strategically placed in low-lying areas where water naturally collects, allowing the soil and plants to filter and absorb the water before it enters storm drains or nearby water sources. Typically planted with native plants that thrive in wet conditions, rain gardens are an eco-friendly solution that helps reduce flooding, improves water quality, and supports local wildlife.

THE DESIGN
PROCESS

At Seacoast Foodscapes, we begin the design process by getting to know you and your space. After you complete a comprehensive questionnaire to help us understand your goals and preferences, we schedule an initial site visit. This visit allows us to evaluate your space and discuss your ideas in person. Following this, we create a general design concept—an initial, elementary vision of your landscape to ensure we're aligned before moving forward.

For large-scale designs, once the general concept is approved, we schedule our Comprehensive Site Assessment & Design Workshop, where we take a closer look at essential elements such as soil health, sunlight patterns, water management strategies, and more. This workshop allows us to gather the final details needed to refine a design plan and ensure it meets your needs. From there, we deliver a custom design plan that includes detailed drawings, potential plant selections, and a clear roadmap for your project’s next steps.

For smaller projects, we may skip the detailed design workshop and proceed directly with the concept renderings, making sure we keep the process efficient and straightforward. In both cases, our focus is on creating landscapes that are not only beautiful but functional, sustainable, and reflective of your lifestyle. With each step, we work collaboratively to bring your edible landscape dreams to life.
